Hopes for Home Buying Process Improvement Following Election

Following the recent announcement of the UK snap general election, at National Moving Day HQ, we are calling for essential changes in the UK's home buying process. It’s our mission to bring attention to the struggles faced by consumers and encourage discussions on policy changes to make buying a home easier and more transparent.

The process of buying a home in the UK can often be confusing and slow, with potential homeowners facing unclear fees and long delays. With National Moving Day, we hope to address these issues by highlighting the need for a more straightforward and user-friendly system.

"Given the recent election, we have a great opportunity to push for improvements," says John Burridge, a co-founder behind National Moving Day. "We believe that by coming together and sharing our experiences, we can bring about change.

By gaining as many voices as possible, addressing the serious frustrations on the home moving system, we hope to make positive change. We invite policymakers to listen to the people affected and consider reforming the current system for the better."

The six common issues with UK Home moving process:

Delays in the Chain: One of the most common issues involves delays further up or down the house buying chain, which can lead to significant delays in the moving process.

Survey Issues: Surveys may uncover problems with the property that require further negotiation, potentially leading to delays or even causing deals to fall through.

Conveyancing Delays: The legal work required to transfer property ownership can be slow and fraught with delay, often due to the volume of transactions conveyancers are handling at any given time.

Financial Issues: Mortgage offers expiring before the exchange, difficulties in securing a mortgage, or unexpected costs can also pose significant problems for home movers.

Gazumping: Agreeing to a price only for the seller to accept a higher offer from another buyer can lead to disappointment and the need to start the search anew.

Completion delays: Delays in the transfer of funds can result in frustrating and last minute postponements for new homeowners eager to receive the keys and move into their new property.

"Moving homes should be an exciting new chapter, yet too often, it's marred by avoidable delays and opaque processes; our mission is to streamline this transition, making it the celebration of progress it ought to be," remarks Ciaran Mullarkey, co-founder of National Moving Day.

We are asking for people's support in raising awareness about the difficulties of buying a home and suggesting ways the process could be improved. The goal is to work with all parties involved to make buying a home a clearer and fairer process.

As the UK enters this new phase, we want to collaborate with officials, industry professionals, and the public to rethink how homes are bought and sold, making it a better experience for everyone.
